During the event, students take part in one-to-one interviews with employers, business volunteers, further education representatives, or local professionals. Prior to the event, students are usually supported to prepare a CV or personal statement and develop an understanding of professional interview techniques.
The event aims to:
- Develop students’ confidence and communication skills.
- Prepare students for future education, apprenticeship, and employment interviews.
- Help students understand employer expectations and workplace behaviours.
- Improve students’ ability to talk about their skills, achievements, and aspirations.
- Provide constructive feedback to support personal development.
Interviews typically last between 15 and 30 minutes and include questions about:
- Personal strengths and areas for development.
- Career interests and future ambitions.
- School subjects and achievements.
- Teamwork, problem-solving, and leadership experiences.
- Attendance, punctuality, and employability skills.
Following the interview, students receive personalised feedback from the interviewer, highlighting strengths and offering suggestions for improvement. This feedback helps students refine their interview techniques and build confidence ahead of future applications and workplace interactions.
By participating in a mock interview event, Year 10 students gain valuable experience of a professional recruitment process, develop key employability skills, and become better prepared for making informed decisions about their next steps after school.
