Speed Networking @ Ellen Wilkinson School for Girls – Ealing

During the event, students are seated in small groups while employers, apprentices, college representatives, or industry professionals rotate around the room (or vice versa) every few minutes. Each session typically lasts 5–10 minutes, giving students the opportunity to ask questions about careers, qualifications, skills, and day-to-day working life.

The aim is to:

• Introduce students to a wide variety of career pathways and industries.
• Develop confidence in communication and networking.
• Help students understand the links between education, skills, and future employment.
• Challenge stereotypes about different jobs and sectors.
• Support informed decision-making as students begin considering their GCSE options and future aspirations.

Students are encouraged to prepare questions in advance, such as:

• What do you enjoy most about your job?
• What qualifications did you need?
• What skills are important in your industry?
• What advice would you give to someone my age?

By the end of the session, Year 9 students will have engaged with multiple professionals, gained valuable workplace insights, and developed a better understanding of the opportunities available to them in the future. The fast-paced format keeps students engaged while exposing them to a broad range of careers within a relatively short period of time.
